Paid Expert

Micro1 interviewed me hard! My onboarding experience with the Micro1 paid expert platform.

This is the first post in my onboarding series, where I signed up for micro1 who pay handsomely for gigs, in my case I can see immediately up to $350/h USD, which is amazing. I may not get that one (hope I do!) but there are plenty for up to $100/h USD which is globally a great rate.

Signing up was smooth, and I can see the opportunities immediately without needing to go through ID verification, which is nice. I can search and see what is available without a prior interview. This makes it a very easy platform to get started with, so I recommend. Here is my initial few screens, which include both hourly jobs and occasional full time salaried jobs.

I applied for the software engineer hourly-billed role, and just required a resume upload, LinkedIn profile and then some really basic questions about my experience. Within an hour I got a link to an interview which is a half hour interview, focused on my experience an proficiency in a programming language.

I did the interview - I won’t say what I was asked as to not allow cheating, but I will say it was a tough interview, something like you’d expect from a real interview at a top software company. Therefore worth preparing for it. The entire interview is run from an AI called Zara, with a clear voice and no “stomping” where she is talking while you are talking. The whole interview had reasonable questions and was pleasant.

After the interview it did some AI analysis and within 1 minute I got the “Congratulations, you’ve met the certification criteria!” which I was very happy about. Both the quick result and of course being accepted. Especially as there were questions I didn’t know.

I then had to complete profile which involves uploading a photo, information, work experience and an ID verification. After which I was informed my application would be reviewed by a hiring manager, which could take up to 30 days.

Update 2026-10-06: Bonus Opportunity!

Micro1 has automatically applied me to a similar opportunity, which I am impressed with. The less needless stuff I need to do on the platform the better, and matching my skill to a similar opportunity saves me time and gets me more potential work. Nice work micro1!
